Srinagar, October 18 (Scoop News) N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the need for effective cooperation among the regional countries to tackle terrorism and fundamentalism and create a peaceful environment for establishing productive economic ties which will lead to speedy progress and prosperity of the people.
The Governor said this in his Presidential Address after inaugurating a 4-day International Conference on “Globalization and Eurasia: Changes and Challenges” organized by the Centre of Central Asian Studies,
The Governor observed that there is urgent need for reviving and strengthening historical, cultural and economic links among the Euroasian countries by combating and surmounting all impediments so that all the regional nations could benefit from the phenomenon of globalization. He added that there is need for creating a sustained environment which enables the free flow of goods, services, expertise, technologies, finances and movement of nationals for promoting the prosperity and well being of the countries of this region.
Referring to the State of
The Governor released a Journal of the Centre of Central Asian Studies brought out on this occasion. He also released the proceedings of the two International Conferences organized by the Centre of Central Asian Studies during 2007-08 and 2008-09.
The Governor wished the Conference high success and fruitful deliberations to the participants.
Rajiv Sikri, former Ambassador, in his Keynote Address, extensively gave an over view of the geo-political and economic scenario of the Euroasia and future possibilities of putting in place strong economic cooperation in the region. In this context, he added that the theme of the Conference is most relevant and timely which needs indepth discussion. He opined that bold, innovative and long-term initiatives are needed for engendering greater economic cooperation in Euroasia, particularly in the globalized world.

Prof. Mushtaq A. Kaw, Director, Area Study Programme, Centre of Central Asian Studies of the University dwelt on the aims and objects of organizing this International Conference and the topics to be discussed during nine working sessions.

Among those present on the occasion were Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Siddiq Wahid, former Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty members, participants of the Conference from within the country and abroad and students of the University.
