Dr. Farooq ,Prof Soz & others also greet people

Vohra and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Chairman, J&K Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra and Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Prof. Saifuddin Soz MP & President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee greeted people on Janamashtami
N. N. Vohra, Governor, has greeted the people on Janamashtami and expressed sincere hope that this auspicious occasion would be a harbinger of peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in the State.
In his message of felicitations, the Governor observed that the divine message of Lord Krishna, enshrined in the Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, exhorts mankind to strive for the ultimate truth and to do one’s duty to the best of one’s ability without worrying about the benefits to be gained. He added that adherence to such values provides a firm foundation of a stable and harmonious society.
On this auspicious occasion, the Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the State.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has extended greetings to the people on Janamashtami wishing them well being and prosperity.
In his greetings message, The Chief Minister said that tradition of celebrating festivals and holy occasions in an atmosphere of amity and brotherhood in Jammu and Kashmir adds colour to the joyful occasions. He stressed on strengthening this trait. The Chief Minister prayed for peace and development in the State and the Country.
Chairman, J&K Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra and Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul have greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Janamashtami.
Extending their good wishes to the people, particularly, Hindu brethren, they said that celebrating festivals together is an old tradition of the people of the State, which, they added, not only strengthens our mutual brotherhood but also forms our religious beliefs.
Both the leaders appealed people to pray for peace, prosperity and development of the State while joining in religious congregations to celebrate the festival.
In his separate greetings message, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has felicitated people on Janamashtami and prayed for their prosperity.
Dr. Farooq emphasized the need of further strengthening the love bonds existing between various sections of the society. He prayed for peace and prosperity in the Country and the State.
Prof. Saifuddin Soz MP (Former Union Minister) & President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee greeted the people especially on the occasion of Janamashtami.
In his message, Prof Soz hoped that this occasion will be a harbinger of prosperity and development of the people and the whole country.
Saroori,senior congress leader also extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Janmashtami.
Saroori said the occasion would be harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity and hoped that it would also strengthen the bond of amity and communal harmony among people of the state.
It may be mentioned here that Janamashtami is reffered as the birth of Lord Krishna, this is the festival and it celebrated in the month of Sravana or Savana.Lord Sri Krishna was born on the ‘Rohini’ nakshatram (star). It is generally celebrated in the month of August-September according to the Christian Calendar. Janmashtami is celebrated for over two days as “Rohini” nakshatra and Ashtami may not fall on the same day. The first day known as Krishnashtami, as the birth of Bhagwan Krishna falls on the eighth day after Raksha Bandhan, which generally falls in the month of August. The second day is known as Kalashtami.
It was only on the eighth day of the second fortnight, in the month of Sravana when, the moon entered the house of Vrishabha in Rohini Nakshatra (star) that Lord appeared. According to Barhapatyamana, the month of Sravana corresponds to the month of Bhadrapada Krishnapaksha. Lord was born in the year of Visvavasu, appx. 5,227 years ago.
The actual festivities begin during midnight in this 48 hour period. The celebration reaches its peak at midnight, with the birth of Lord Krishna, with lot of hymns, arti taking place and blowing of the Conch (shankh), rocking the cradle of Lord. The idol of lord is bathed with Panchait (A mixture of milk, ghee, oil, honey and Gangajal). The Panchait is later distributed as Prasad to the devotees along with other sweets. While some Fast on the first day and break it at midnight for others the fasting continues for both days. The period coincides with rainy season.
