J&K government pushing state into further anarchy & chaos: Mehbooba

Srinagar, October 03 (Scoop News) – Commenting on the continued use of force against peaceful citizens, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has said the government is pushing the state into further anarchy and chaos by its vengeful attitude towards the citizens.
In a statement, she said the policy of punishing entire population for no reason could result in unimaginable fallout.

She condemned shooting down of youth including a lady at Nagbal of Zainpora area in Shopian today by forces for their fault of resisting crackdown. She said the government had brought back the horrifying memories of NC’s earlier stint in power by resuming harassment and dishonouring of civilians. She recalled that people were earlier this week injured in government firing in Anantnag and Baramulla as well, while many others sustained injuries in beating by the forces and government goons.

Endorsing the right of peaceful protest of the people against assault on their liberties, security and dignity Mehbooba said by declaring a war on people the
government was only making prospects of peace and normalcy bleak. No self respecting people, she cautioned could be deprived of their rights by brute
force and muzzling of their voice.
Mehbooba said she was receiving calls and complaints from all over the valley of forces having gone virtually berserk which could not be without government instructions. She said beating up of law abiding citizens irrespective of their age and status had become a routine. “The harvesting operations in many areas had been stopped and people were being stopped from going to their fields and orchards”.
Strongly objecting to uninterrupted curfew and undeclared restrictions, Mehbooba said it seems the government was drawing a sadistic pleasure out of humiliating, hurting and punishing the people. She said it seems government has finally decided to formally wind up all options of normal governance, civilized behaviour, legal methods and political approach and hold on to force for subjugating the people. This criminal attitude of the government had forced the PDP to stay away from the proceedings of legislature, but even such a serious protest that could have shaken any democratic system has not been able to evoke any positive response so far. She said the party will continue to use its democratic position to raise issues of the people and initiation of action against the killers of 110 people was the minimum that the government must do to restore credibility of democratic institutions and system. The government must also restrain forces and stop using curfew as a tool of collective punishment she stressed.
