Sriinagar, August 24 (Scoop News) – The Governor, N. N. Vohra, celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the children from the SOS Children’s Village, Srinagar, who met him at the Raj Bhavan, here today.
Twelve young girls accompanied by the Director of the SOS Children’s Village, Srinagar, their foster Mother and Teachers/Councillors, greeted the Governor and the First Lady, s. Usha Vohra, on Raksha Bandhan. They tied Rakhis on the Governor.
The Governor and the First Lady interacted with all the children, one by one, and hoped that this festival would further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, amity and harmony and would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State. The Governor and the First Lady presented sweets and gifts to the children and mementos to the Director, Mother and the Councillors. The Governor thanked the children for tying Rakhis on him and wished them a bright future.
The Director, SOS Children’s Village, Srinagar, Naushad Raza, FSP Coordinator, Tanveer Abbas, Senior Councillor, Syed Shaffat, Councilors, Ms. Siama Jamsheed and Ms. Shahnaz Wani, Sponsorship Secretary, Ms. Shagufat Sultan and Mother, Ms. Chesffida accompanied the children.
The Director, SOS Children’s Village, briefed the Governor about the Village and the facilities being provided to the inmates. The Governor appreciated the initiative of the SOS Villages and called upon the people, particularly the affluent sections of society and philanthropists, to come forward in a big way to reach out and help the children in need.
The Governor presented a cheque of rupees one lakh to Raza, Director SOS Children’s Village, Srinagar.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor, R. K. Goyal, was present on the occasion.
