Srinagar, September 3 (Scoop News) – N. N. Vohra, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the 58th National School Games Football Under 17 Years for Boys Tournament at Bakhshi Stadium, here today.
27 teams from various States and organisations of the country are participating in this Championship which has been organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India. The teams shall play matches for 5 days at several venues in Srinagar.
R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports; K. Rajendra, Additional Director General of Police (Armed/Law and Order); Vinod Koul, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports; Baseer Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; J. P. Singh, Director, Youth Services and Sports; Dalip Thussu, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council; office bearers of the School Games Federation of India, J&K Football Association, Managers and Coaches of participating teams, players and football lovers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor observed that there is tremendous sports talent among the boys and girls of the State and hoped that, with the availability of improved facilities and increasing opportunities, they will excel in all sports and games. He said that if their talents are nurtured and adequately groomed there shall be no reason why many of them shall not make it to the national teams in all games and sports disciplines in the coming years. He said that time has come for the youth of J&K to demonstrate their talents and bring laurels to the State in the various sports events at the national and international levels.
Referring to the 58th National School Games Football Under 17 Years for Boys, the Governor observed that football lovers would get a very good opportunity to witness these teams in action in the coming four days.
The Governor congratulated the School Games Federation of India and the J&K Youth Services and Sports Department for organising this Championship at Srinagar and hoped that this would further promote football, which has been a very popular game in the State.
Before declaring the Games Open, the Governor unfurled the School Games Federation of India Flag and released pigeons and balloons, symbols of peace, on this occasion. He took salute from the 27 contingents of the players at an impressive March Past, which was followed by Oath taking Ceremony by the teams.
The players of Manipur and West Bengal, who played the opening match of the Championship, were introduced to the Governor on this occasion. He interacted with them and wished them a good football and a bright future ahead.
R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, presented a memento to the Governor on this occasion.
R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, speaking on the occasion, gave details of the various initiatives being taken for the promotion of sports and games in the State. He said that earlier Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata, had played matches in Srinagar and now the famous Mohun Bagan team will be playing one match each at Srinagar and Jammu on September 8 and 11, respectively. He thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the promotion of sports in the State. He also thanked the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for encouraging the sports activities in the State in a big way. He expressed his gratitude to the School Games Federation of India for providing opportunity to J&K to host the 58th National School Games Football Under 17 Years for Boys.
J. P. Singh, Director, Youth Services and Sports, in his welcome address, dwelt on the measures being taken for the promotion of various sports in the State.

Gurezi for immediate compensation to land owners of hospital
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 03- Member Legislative Assembly, Gurez Nazir Ahmad Gurezi Monday asked the health department authorities to release funds immediately in favour of the persons whose land has been acquired for the construction of hospital at Gurez so that the construction work of the hospital building will be taken in hand soon.
Gurezi said the people of Gurez are facing very hardship due to insufficient medicare facilities particularly during the winter months as the area remain cut off from other parts of the State for a period of six months. He directed the concerned to expedite all formalities and ensure completion of hospital building within a stipulated time frame so that the long pending demand of the Gurez area is fulfilled.
Gurezi also demanded deployment of team of specialist doctors including Gynecologists, physicians and surgeon for Gurez during the winter months of December, January, February and March on rotational basis. He said air service shall be provided to them during the period.
The legislator also asked the officers of health department to ensure the availability of life saving drugs and other surgical appliances in the health institutions of the sub-division for the convenience of the patients.

Remove encroachments on priority for early completion of projects: PAC to R&B Deptt.
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 03- The Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly headed by its chairman Rafi Ahmed Mir Monday directed the Public Works Department (PWD) authorities to speed up the pace of all ongoing macro and micro road and bridge projects and complete them in a stipulated time frame.
To avoid cost escalation, the Committee stressed for full utilization of available funds and their judicious use in a time bound manner.
Legislators, Bashir Ahmed Magray, Mrs. Bimla Luthura, Mrs. Indu Pawar and Vikar Rasool Wani in a meeting held here, gave their valuable suggestions for the improvement of the functioning of the department.
Threadbare discussion was held on various CAG’s audit paras pertaining to PWD besides working of the department. After satisfactory reply, the panel dropped few audit paras.
The Committee stressed upon the concerned for early clearance of compensation of land owners and directed to remove all encroachments on priority so that the projects are to be completed well in time.
Discussing NABARD schemes, the Committee urged for involvement of local representatives while formulating Detailed Project Reports (DPR). It also asked them to project compensation part in the DPR also so that the funds would be arranged for the purpose from the state sector.
The panel stressed for fair distribution of funds and maintenance of existing roads.
Among others, Principal Accountant General J&K Dr. S.C.Pandey, Commissioner Secretary PWD Mrs. Tanveer Jehan, Chief Engineers R&B Jammu/Kashmir, Chief Engineers PMGSY Jammu/Kashmir and other officers and Engineers of PWD besides Assembly Secretariat including Additional Secretary R.C.Khujaria attended the meeting.
