Srinagar, August 16 (Scoop News)- The Governor, N. N. Vohra, felicitated Shri Gopal, a final year student of B. Tech, (Electronics and Communication) of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University,( SMVDU) Kakriyal, Katra, for being awarded the “S. K. Tickoo MicroE Scholarship”, for the year 2009-10, at Raj Bhavan here today.
Powai Labs, which is the IIT Bombay incubated and equity held entity, has launched a J&K-focussed scholarship called “S. K. Tickoo MicroE Scholarship” for the Jammu and Kashmir based final year students of electronics, computers, information technology and electrical branches to support them in the field of Microelectronics. The scholarship allows the selected students to get Rs. 7,000 per month and an opportunity to work with enowned IIT professors and innovators at the Powai Labs. They can also finish their final year project and get an insight into the latest world-class R&D ideas.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor dwelt on the significant headway made by the country in recent years, particularly in the arena of high technology. He observed that there is a crucial need for filling up the technological gaps in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the fields of Microelectronics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, application of the entire range of agriculture, veterinary and forestry sciences, taking research from lab to the land for enhancing agricultural, veterinary, poultry etc productivity and production, boosting the production of horticulture, saffron, etc. He added that we need to improve our overall technological environment in the State by formulating a pragmatic vision for the purpose.
The Governor congratulated Gopal for receiving this scholarship and hoped that other boys and girls in J&K will draw inspiration from him and bring laurels, particularly in the current and emerging high technology domain.
The Governor presented the Scholarship Certificate to Gopal along with a gift from the Raj Bhavan and wished him a bright career ahead.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer, Powai Labs, Reapan Tikoo, said that this Scholarship has been named after the distinguished engineer of the State, the late S. K. Tickoo, whose birthday is today. He stated that the Scholarship has been floated with a view to creating opportunities for the students from J&K to achieve excellence in the field of high technology.
