Jammu, November 28 (Scoop News) – N. N. Vohra, Governor, today said that the children of Jammu and Kashmir are bright and talented and if provided the enabling opportunities they can win awards and honours at the national levels and bring laurels to the State.
The Governor, who is also the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, was interacting with a large group of Scouts and Guides who, along with the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, called on him at Raj Bhavan here today, in connection with their Annual Flag Day.
Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, was present on the occasion.
The Governor emphasized the need for the promotion of Scouts and Guides movement in the State to bring a large number of youth under its umbrella. Referring to the need for creating the required infrastructure and training facilities for the Scouts and Guides, he assured all possible support for setting up a Training Centre at Jammu, once they secure a piece of land to construct the building.
Mentioning about the proposal of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides to organize a National Level Scouts and Guides Camp in the State, the Governor assured that he would facilitate this initiative also. He suggested that, if possible, they could organize this mega Camp at Katra in January-February, 2012 or later next year at a suitable place.
The Governor and the First Lady made a contribution to the Annual Flag Day Fund and wished them all success in their mission. The Governor called upon all sections of the society to contribute generously to the Annual Flag Day Fund, for facilitating enhanced Scouts and Guides activities in the State.
The Governor presented an award to Ms. Riya Gupta, Bulbul of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, a 6th class student of the May Fair Higher Secondary School, Janipur, Jammu, for being adjudged first in the national level Essay Writing Competition.
Earlier, after the Prayer, the Scouts and Guides presented Scarfs to the Governor, Lady Governor and R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor, and pinned on them the Flag Day stickers, what are symbols of the Scouts and Guides movement.
In his welcome address, I. D. Soni, State Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, briefed the Governor about the activities of the organization. He thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the Scouts and Guides movement and for extending strong support for this purpose.
Mrs. Nasreen Khan, Guides Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, presented a Vote of Thanks.
Among those present on the occasion were the senior functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides and Principals of various educational institutions.
