Leh,August 26 (Scoop News) – The Governor, N. N. Vohra, visited the severely flood affected area of Choglamsar and interacted with calamity-hit people in the Relief Camps at Tashi Gatsal and Himank, here last evening.
The Governor was briefed by Chhering Dorje, Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, LEH, T. Angchok, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Councillor of the area, Jigmet Namgyal, and other officers of the District Administration about the loss of human life and property due to the devastating flash floods in Choglamsar.
The Governor went around both the Relief Camps and interacted with the flood affected families putting up in the Camps set up by the District Administration. He also enquired from them the basic facilities being made available to them and spent some time in examining the functioning of the Water Purification System at Tashi Gatsal which has been provided by the Indian Red Cross Society for the Relief Camp dwellers.
The Governor also visited the upcoming Solar Colony and had a first hand appraisal of this proposed site for the rehabilitation of the flood affected families. The Deputy Commissioner apprised the Governor that the affected families are being provided plots of seven marlas each at the Solar Colony for constructing their houses and that urgent steps are underway in regard to setting up all basic necessities like drinking water, power supply, sewerage system, pathways etc. so that dwelling units are erected before the onset of ensuing winter. He further informed that the construction materials shall also be quickly made available for facilitating speedy construction of the houses.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor, R. K. Goyal, Chief Relief Coordinator, Jigmet Takpa, SSP Leh, B. S. Tuti and senior officers of the District Administration accompanied the Governor during the visit.
