Srinagar, August 29 (Scoop News) – The Governor, N. N. Vohra, today visited the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnathji and the Camps at Panjtarni, Sheshnag, Baltal and Domel to review the status of the ongoing special sanitation drive being carried out under his directions. He also discussed with the Board officials and Security Forces officers the further improvements to be made in locating various facilities in each Camp for the Yatra 2011.
R. K. Goyal, Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, disclosed that on the strict instructions of the Governor, a special sanitation drive had been launched more than 2 weeks ago at all the Camps and along the Yatra routes, with a view to ensuring effective disposal of all garbage and wastes. He added that the Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Shrine Board, has been emphasizing the crucial importance of cleaning the Yatra area before onset of the ensuing winter season and has been personally monitoring this aspect on regular basis. He further said that the Shrine Board has taken several steps for sanitation and environment protection, involving significant expenditures. These measures have included the operation and maintenance of the Sewerage Treatment Plants at the Baltal and Nunwan Camps, biological treatment of human wastes at all other Camps, and scientific treatment of all solid and liquid wastes. Besides, the Board had taken several pro-active measures for creating awareness among various stakeholders for ensuring cleanliness in the Yatra area during the Yatra.
The Governor, accompanied by his Principal Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, R. K. Goyal, arrived at the Holy Cave from Srinagar this morning and took stock of the damage caused to the Yatra-related facilities on account of the flash floods on 22nd August, 2010. He issued spot instructions in regard to the timely implementation of the required preventive measures.
Later, inspecting the situation on the ground in regard to the cleanliness of the Holy Cave area, he expressed satisfaction at the efforts made by the CEO and his team of officials.
At Panjtarni, Sheshnag and Baltal, the Governor had a round of the camping areas and issued instructions to the Board and other concerned officials to complete the residual work by 5th September.
The Governor was received at the Baltal Base Camp by Ms. Dilshad Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Imtiaz, SSP Ganderbal, Mushtaq, CEO, SDA, and officers of the District Administration, Army and the Shrine Board.
