J&K Governor sanctions Rs. 5 lakh for Ramakrishna Mission Jammu

Jammu,March 9 (Scoop News) –   The Governor,  N. N. Vohra, today said that the teachings of sufis, saints and other spiritual personalities have influenced mankind since times immemorial and called for reviving their teachings for establishing a more harmonious society.

The Governor was addressing after releasing, “Sri Ramakrishna ke Iqwal-e-Zarrin”, at a function held at Ramakrishna Mission, Udhowala, here this evening. This book is the Urdu translation of “Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna” originally written in Bengali by Shri Mohinder Nath Gupta, based on daily discourses of Sri Ramakrishna with his devotees.

The Governor observed that if we have to survive as individuals, as societies, as sovereign countries and globally, we need to revert to and revive the teachings of the great thinkers and philosophers. Referring to the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, the Governor said that the most eminent persons in India and abroad were influenced by his Pantheistic philosophy – great men like Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Aldous Huxley, Romain Rolland and others.  He added that Sri Ramakrishna taught us the one-ness of all gods and the value of adhering to truth and sincerity. 

Referring to the Urdu translation of the book which he released today, the Governor observed that it is very well written in a simple language, and is easy to understand. He congratulated all those associated with this appreciable effort.

          The Governor announced Rs. 5 lakh for carrying out the activities of the Ramakrishna Mission, Jammu, on the occasion.

Earlier, on arrival at the Ramakrishna Mission, the Governor visited the Medical Centre set up by the Mission, interacted with the management and doctors and enquired about the consultancy, diagnostic and treatment facilities made available to the needy.

In his welcome address, the President, Ramakrishna Mission, Jammu, Dr. S. S. Bloeria, gave details of the activities of the Jammu Mission. He dwelt on the life and the spiritual attainments of Sri Ramakrishna, as well as its influence on humanity.

In his introductory speech, the Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Belgaum, Swami Girijeshananda, referring to the “Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna” said that this book has been translated in Russian, Japaneses, Portugese, German and many other foreign and Indian languages for the larger benefit of the readers. He presented the first copy of the book to the Governor.

Speaking on the occasion,  Khalid Hussain, a noted writer, gave a detailed account of “Sri Ramakrishna ke Iqwal-e-Zarrin” and stressed the need for translating various religious books in Urdu for the benefit of the readers of this language.

The Co-Translator of this book,  Puran Chander Sharma, explained various chapters of the volume.

Swami Ekarthananda presented a Vote of Thanks.

The function, attended by a galaxy of members of the Management Committee of the Mission, devotees and prominent citizens, was started with the invocation by the Monks of the Ramakrishna Order.
