Jammu, December 22(Scoop News) – N. N. Vohra, Governor, said that the educational institutions are granaries where future leaders of society are nurtured to shoulder the responsibilities of nation building in varied fields of human endeavor.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing the Annual Day Function of the Maharaja Harisingh Agricultural Collegiate School, Nagbani, near here today.
The Governor emphasized the crucial importance of the education system focusing adequately on character building and imparting ethical values to the youth, along with excellence in academics, for ensuring the harmonious functioning of society. In this context, he congratulated the Maharaja Harisingh Agricultural Collegiate School for taking initiatives for the balanced personality development of its students. Referring to Report presented by the Principal of the School, he said that by all accounts the institution has continued to do well both in academics and extra-curricular activities, year after year. He observed that by dint of its achievements this institution is bringing credit to the person in whose name this School has been established, the late Maharaja Harisingh.
Describing the Annual Day Function as an important occasion for every educational institution, the Governor observed that it is a proud moment for the teachers as well as the institution when their students earn laurels. He appreciated the turnout and smartness of the boys and girls who participated in the parade and those who presented a spectacular cultural programme on this occasion. He praised the high quality of “vandana”presented by the girl students and felicitated the students who received prizes for achieving excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities.
Recalling his own association with DAV run educational institutions, the Governor said that even in the 1950s when there were not enough resources for providing playgrounds and sports activities, the DAV institutions produced excellent results in extra-curricular activities along with the best performances in the academics arena.
The Governor was presented a Guard of Honour. He inspected the Parade and took the salute at a March Past in which several contingents of boy and girl students took part.
Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady gave away prizes to the meritorious students who had excelled in academics and sports. She interacted with them and wished them a bright future ahead.
The Governor and the First Lady were presented bouquets by the Head Girl and Head Boy of the School. They were also presented mementos on the occasion.
Earlier, on arrival at the function, the Governor and the First Lady were received by the management, staff and students of the School.
In his welcome address, Capt. Dewan Singh, Manager of the School, congratulated the Governor for being conferred with the Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) by the Panjab University recently, adding that all of us are proud of this honour conferred upon the Governor. He gave details of the objectives, evolution, history and growth of this institution in the past decades and its contribution in promotion of education in the State. He thanked the Governor and the First Lady for blessing the students at the Annual Day Function. He said that this would be a great source of inspiration for them.
Yogesh Khosla, Principal of the School, in his Report, threw light on the achievements of the institution in academics and extra-curricular activities.
The Regional Director, DAV Schools, Mrs. Puran Prabha Sharma, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The function was attended by a large gathering comprising management, staff, students, their parents and prominent citizens.
