Jammu,November 15 (Scoop News) J&K Governor, N. N. Vohra, has emphasized the need for urgent steps being taken for creating the required infrastructure and training facilities for Scouts and Guides to foster discipline and character building among the youth of J&K. This, he said, would also facilitate national level Scouts and Guides camps being organized in the State.
The Governor observed that he had discussed this matter with R. S. Chib, Minister for Sports and Youth Services, last year and would do so again this month.
The Governor was interacting with a group of Scouts and Guides who, along with the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, called on him at Raj Bhavan here this evening, in connection with their Annual Flag Day.
The Governor stressed the need for taking the activities of Scouts and Guides to the remote and far-flung areas of the State and bringing a larger number of boys and girls under its ambit, as the spread of this important movement would contribute in a big way to the harmonious personality development of our youth and promotion of solidarity among the youth of various regions in J&K.
The Governor enquired from the accompanying functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides about the activities of this organization, their training schedules and the awards bagged by them at the State and national levels.
The Governor, who is also the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, made a contribution to the Annual Flag Day Fund and wished them all success in their mission. He called upon all sections of the society to contribute generously to the Annual Flag Day Fund, for facilitating enhanced Scouts and Guides activities in the State.
The State Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, I. D. Soni, briefed the Governor about the activities of the organization. He thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the Scouts and Guides movement.
Earlier, the Scouts and Guides pinned the Flag Day sticker on the Governor’s coat, conveying the message of the Scouts and Guides movement.
The Principal Secretary to the Governor, R. K. Goyal, was present on the occasion.
Among others present on the occasion were the Zonal Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, Wing Commander (Retd) M. M. Joshi, Guides Commissioner, s. Nasreen Khan and other senior functionaries of the organization.
