Jammu, November 16 (Scoop News) – J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today approved Rs. 40 crore Action Plan for strengthening of infrastructure in Degree Colleges in the State under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) of Rs. 100 crore approved by the Central Government for the purpose.
The Plan envisages upgradation of existing infrastructure with addition of critical requirements in the Degree Colleges. The plan has been formulated keeping in view the recommendations of the National Accredited Assessment Committee (NAAC).
Approving the Action Plan, the Chief Minister directed for completing the works during the current financial year and as per the allocations made for each work. He also directed for the monitoring of implementation works by the Minister In-charge and the Administrative Secretary so that works are completed in the stipulated time frame.
Under the Action Plan infrastructure development will be carried on in as many as 74 Government Degree Colleges in
Omar Abdullah has also released Rs. 45 crores to be utilized by the School Education Department under SPA through a similar Action Plan. The amount shall be utilized for filling up the infrastructural gaps like class-rooms, library and laboratory facilities, lavatory blocks etc and strengthening of the existing infrastructure. School Education Department has been asked to expedite formulation and implementation of Action Plan in this regard.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of judicious spending of funds scheme-wise and completion of the targets in consonance with fixed time line. He said the upgradation and improvement of the existing infrastructure was priority of the Government.
“We have embarked upon a comprehensive programme of consolidation in the education sector along with expansion wherever required”, he said and emphasized on making the educational institutions centers of modern studies.
The Chief Minister said that education sector has been flagged as one of the most important concerns in the development policy and efforts are on to give considerable fillip to educational activities in the State.
