This was stated today by Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports Prof. R. S. Chib at the valedictory function of 4-day 1st State Games for Disabled held at Nagrota, organized by Special Olympics Bharat-J&K Chapter in collaboration with Sehyog India, R. S. Pura under the scheme of Sports and Games for the person with disability, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
250 disabled athletes and 90 coaches from various parts of the state participated in these games.
Terming the sports event as turning point in the life of physically challenged persons, Chib said it provides them the opportunity to explore their hidden talent. He said that these athletes by participating in the games have proved that they can compete in co-curricular activities and win the challenges. He appreciated the special athletes for their patience and discipline. He said that it is the moral duty to everyone to encourage and help this helpless part of the society.
The Minister said that the government will provide all support to Special Olympics Bharat- J&K in strengthening and bringing forward the movement.
On the occasion, the Minister gave away mementos and certificates among the winners and runners-up players.
Dr Ashwani Jojra presented vote of thanks and lauded all the sponsors and persons who contributed for making this event success one. He informed that such meets would also be organised at national level in near future.
