Jammu, March 16 (Scoop News) – Minister for Medical Education, Youth services & Sports, R.S.Chib has said that Government is paying focused attention development of sports infrastructure across the State, adding that an amount of over Rs 8.19 crore have been expended under district and State sectors for upgradation of sports infrastructure in various educational institutions in the State from March 2009 to January 2011.
This information was given by the Minister in his detailed reply to the question raised by Er. Abdul Rashid in the Legislative Assembly here today. He said the funds released for infrastructure building under sports sector have been distributed on need basis to all the constituencies of the State for promotion of sports activities.
Minister said that PYKKA is centrally sponsored scheme for promotion of sports activities in rural areas, adding that under the scheme 90 % funding is being provided by the Centre. He said under the scheme every block would get Rs 5 lakh while and every panchayat of Rs One lakh for promotion of sports activities in rural areas. He said that in coming year, the State would get lot of benefits under the scheme.
The Minister gave constituency wise physical and financial achievements registered under the sector. He assured for due consideration of the Government for upgradation of sports infrastructure in all the constituencies of the State.
Legislators, Harshdev Singh, M. Y. Tarigami, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Ashwani Sharma, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Ab. Haq Khan Mohammad Ashraf Ganai and Mir Saifullah raised supplementaries to the main question and highlighted the demands for upgradation of sports infrastructure in their constituencies.
