Jammu,May 27 – As a significant welfare measure and keeping with his promise of providing financial support in lieu of government jobs to the Next of Kin (NoK) of innocent civilians killed in militancy-related violence, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sanctioned release of additional Rs. 20 crore for the current year and also revalidated unspent amount of Rs.11.45 crore of last year for utilization this year for payment of cash compensation.
The compensation money will provide succour to the victim families. The Chief Minister, it may be recalled, had said at a function at Rajouiri while distributing compensation cheques to the next of kin of innocent civilians killed in violence that the relief provided by way of financial assistance would not compensate the loss of their dear ones, but it is only to express sympathy of the government and the concern it has for the welfare of the bereaved families.
According to an order issued by the General Administration Department, the release of additional funds and revalidation for utilizing previous unspent balance in terms of J&K (Compassionate Appointment) Rules, 1994, has cleared all pending cases of cash compensation in lieu of government jobs for NoK of innocent civilians killed in militancy-related incidents across all districts of the State.
All the Deputy Commissioners have been requested to submit beneficiary-wise details of expenditure to the GAD by 5th of every month along with detailed projecting requirement of funds. They have also been instructed to strictly release the funds for the purpose and not divert the same to any other scheme.
The Chief Minister had during his tour of Poonch and Rajouri districts on February 22, distributed compensation cheques worth Rs. 4 lakh each among youth as financial assistance in lieu of government jobs so that they could start their own ventures and live honourably.
