Jammu, December 24 (Scoop News) –The Government is mooting a plan to restore pristine glory of Maharaja Poonch palace (Poonch House) at Tallab Tillo Jammu, revealed the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora during his visit to the historical building.
He said after its conservation, the palace would be utilized for any tourism related activity, more likely to house Food Craft Institute of Jammu. The Minister said that there was persistent demand from the people and the public representatives, particularly from Poonch district to restore the ancient building, which has great historical importance.
During the visit Jora took stock of the condition of the building and the conservation works required to restore the pristine glory of the palace.
Director Tourism Jammu, R. S. Mehta, Principal FCI Jammu, Joyti Batti, Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts Jammu, Deputy Director Maintainenace and works Tourism department, Deputy Director Archives, Peerzada Mohammad Ashraf, besides former Director Tourism S.M. Sahani and other senior officers and engineers of concerned departments accompanied the Minister.
The Minister directed the State Archives and Tourism department authorities to initiate necessary process in this regard and formulate conservation plan so that the work on the palace could be started soon.
During the visit, the Minister went around the palace and inspected various portions that need immediate restoration.
The Tourism Minister said that J&K has rich cultural heritage and conservation and restoration of historical monuments in the State was receiving focused attention of the Government. He said that a number of such State monuments have already been restored to their pristine glory during last over three years.
Jora said the conservation works on Hari Parbat fort at Srinagar, Bahu Fort at Jammu, Chingus fort at Rajouri, besides other historical buildings, temples, monasteries, and shrines have been completed. He said due attention was also being paid to preserve ancient manuscripts, paintings and artifacts.
The Minister said the conservation and restoration of Mubarak Mandi Palace was also on priority of the government. and in this regard the Centre has approved a funding of Rs.75 crore . He said the first installment of Rs. 12 crore has already been received to carry out the necessary works of the royal complex palace.
