Addressing on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the importance of Republic Day and achievements made by the present coalition government during its one year tenure. She said that scholarships to the tune of Rs. 16 crore were provided under OBC Scheme besides six lakh people got benefit under Old Age Pension Scheme. She said that coalition government under that leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah will ensure socio-economic development in the state. She said 6000 Anganwari workers and helpers are being appointed under ICDS in the third phase.
A colorful cultural programme was presented at the function by Department of Information in collaboration with students of Education Department and other artisans.

The Minister said that it was only when villages and towns of any country are developed, the Country is said to be on the path of development. He said that during the last two decade, the lives of people were affected adversely and added that it was the resolve of the Government to compensate for the losses and take the state on the path of peace, progress and development.
Saying that Anantnag is a historical place which has produced great people, who have made the state and the country proud, Ajaz said that the Government is committed to make every village of the district as a modal village.
Elaborating on the results of various centrally sponsored schemes like NREGS and IAY, Aijaz Ahmad Khan said that 47632 job cards have been issued till now and 1048 IAY sheds constructed 41 road projects have been taken up and to increase the power supply about Rs. 64 crore are being invested under Rajiv Gandhi Vidyuti Karan Yojana. He further said that to address the unemployment problem, Sheri-Kashmir Employment Scheme has been introduced in the state.

On this occasion, the Minister unfurled the Tricolor and also took salute ot the march past from contingents of armed Police, JK Police, NCC, CRPF, Fire and Emergency Services, Police Ladies Wing, IRP and contingents of School Children.
The Minister said that present coalition government is doing a lot for the people. He said that in education sector, against 43 percent achievements made during the year 2000, the present percentage upto 65 percent has been now achieved besides after every one kilometer, the education facilities have been made available to the people.
