Srinagar, September 10 (Scoop News)-Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib flagged off maiden Mughal Road Trekking Expedition 2012 organized by Government College of Physical Education Ganderbal here today.
A 50 member team including 20 female trekkers from Government College of Physical Education Ganderbal started trekking expedition from Shopain via Peer ki Gali, Nandan Sar and Chandan Sar and will conclude at Shahdra Sharief.
The flag off ceremony was held at Directorate of Youth Services and Sports Srinagar.
Chib said government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to boost the young talent through the promotion of sports activities in the State and has taken numerous steps for organizing various tournaments across the state, besides providing better sports infrastructure facilities.
Chib thanked the Chief Minister for his support towards the sports sector. He said Chief Minister has given ample amount of grant for the promotion of sports sector.
Chib hailed the efforts of Director YSS and Principal GPC Ganderbal for organizing the first ever trekking and camping programme at State level. He said sports culture gaining popularity in the state.
Minister said that government has taken various initiatives to promote the sports sector and encourage players to participation at national and international level. He said physical education is very important for over all development of the youth and needs to be given more attention
Chib also said that government has spent about Rs 35 crore for the new Physical Education College at Gadoora, Ganderbal which will be equipped with all latest facilities.
Minister, hoped that trekkers will acquire good experience for trekking and camp life. He suggested the YSS department to monitor the whole camp and watch every team member and put their performance on record and one who excels and tops the group would be given leadership awards.
Chib said that said trekking camp especially through the route historic Mughal Road route will certainly forward good message with regard to tourism industry and will attract more tourists towards our State.
Director Youth Services and Sports J P Singh, Principal, Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, Dr Hartej Singh, Joint Director YSS, Madan Lal, other concerned officers and 50 participants from various districts of the State were present on the occasion a special memento from the college was presented to the Minister.
