JK Ministers seek more KVKs for Gurez,Uri, Zanskar, Nubra Valley

 

NEW DELHI/ Jammu,(Scoop News) – In order to introduce organic farming there is a need of standard portfolio for enhancing the organic farming system in Jammu and Kashmir State. Moreover the production of high breed seeds has also been carried out at high scale in the private sector which has lot of marketing facilities available as compared to government sector thus there is a need for exchange of information for capacity building and knowledge sharing/expertise between the two sectors for a close coordination setup in profitable agriculture production of high breed seeds.

            These are the suggestions projected by the Ministers,  Gulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture J&K State and  Sham lal Sharma, Minister for Horticulture Planning & Marketing, Health and Family Welfare J&K state in Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Society (ICARs) here today.

            The ICAR meeting was chaired by Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries & President ICAR. Union Minister of state for Agriculture and Food Processing industries and Parliamentary Affairs,  Harish Rawat and Union Minister of state for Agriculture & Food Processing Industries, Dr. Charan Das Mahant was also present.

          The Minister’s pleaded that the state being the first state of the country  where 90% of apple production is recorded which needs profitable agriculture marketing  and special emphasis on value addition research based on  scientific view point and similar attention is required to be paid in Honey bees for pollination and wheat & Barley produce.

          While participating in  interactive session the  Mir and  Sham Lal expressed their gratitude for setting up of four Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) Knowledge and Research Centres and  stressed the need for more five KVKs for the state in the border areas of Gurez, Machhil and Uri, Zanskar, Nubra Valley (Ladakh), Poonch, Rajouri, Samba. However for establishment of these new KVKs as per the present norms of ICAR ,state requires one time relaxation for  allotment of land due to less availability of land and hilly terrain of these areas, they added. Further they demanded opening of Yak Research Centre / station at Changthang (Ladakh)- University Research Station  on the pattern of HRC of Yak in Arunachal Pradesh.

          The ICAR meet among others was attended by Minister’s of the other states, Union Secretaries, Agriculture Secretaries from various states, senior scientists, Agriculturists and senior officers from various states.
