Jammu, March 22 (Scoop News) – The leader of largest opposition party Ms Mehbooba Mufti today called for strengthening democratic institutions to honour the State’s people, who she said rejected bullet for ballot in 2008 and participated in the elections massively.
Initiating discussion on the demands for grants of the departments under the charge of Chief Minister in Legislative Assembly today, Ms Mufti said all out efforts are needed to rope in the forces outside mainstream politics for bringing peace and stability in the State. We need to address the alienation among the youth, she said while stressing on creating congenial atmosphere so that this vast section feels safe and secure.
She also stressed on coordinated efforts cutting across party lines to create amiable atmosphere for progress and development of the State. “Everybody among us has to contribute our mite to strengthen democracy and reactivate its institutions”, she said.
The leader of opposition called for release of youth detained under PSA even as she urged the government to dispense justice to the families who have lost their dear ones in the last year’s summer unrest.

Mr Vikar Rasool sought additional funds for vital sectors like road connectivity and improvement of power in Banihal constituency. Ch Mohammad Ramzan demanded autonomy to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the State. He stressed on involvement of Hurriyat in peace talks. He sought special efforts for upgradation of infrastructure in vital sectors like Power, PHE and Roads in Handwara constituency. He suggested special training capsules for Police to deal with mob violence.
Improve accountability: Harsh
Harshdev Singh stressed on improving services delivery system for the larger interest of the public. He sought speedy disposal of files in Government offices and enforcing accountability. He said officers responsible for causing delay should be dealt with seriously to lend a semblance to the oft repeated slogans of transparency and accountability by the government. He also called for strengthening the State Information Commission, appointment of Chairman of JK BOSE and State Backward Commission.
He said all the three regions should be given equal share in development and plan outlays. He also called for bringing Udhampur district under Backward Regions funding. He also advocated regularization of SPOs and enhancement in the honorarium of VDC members.
Withdraw PSA cases: Veeri
A.R. Veeri called for streamlining working in all the government departments. He pleaded for withdrawal of PSA cases and release of detunes arrested under it. He advocated joint efforts of all parties to resolve
Mrs Indu Pawar sough increasing outlays to social sectors to improve living conditions of the people. She also demanded upgradation of road connectivity, Power and Education infrastructure.
Mr Kafil-ul-Rehman demanded focused attention on the development of hilly and far flung areas of the State. He sought special status to the Pahari speaking people for their upliftment. He pleaded one time relaxation for the students of Karnah in securing RBA certificates. He said students who have passed their matric outside Karnah due to 2005 earthquake should be entitled to obtain RBA.
Mr Abdul Razak Zawoora demanded special funds for upgradation of power scenario in Aharwal and other areas in Shopian constituency. He also stressed on early construction of mini secretariat in Shopian.
Mr G.M. Saroori expressed gratitude to the Central Government for liberal funding for overall progress and development of the State. He demanded more administrative units in erstwhile Doda district.
