JK Police chief stresses for greater synergy at all levels

Jammu, March 12 (Scoop News) – The Director General of J&K Police (DGP),  Kuldeep Khoda has underscored the importance of Armed Police in dealing the emergent situations and maintaining the law and order in the State. He stressed for greater synergy among all ranks as the force has to share more responsibilities in the present changing scenario.

                 Khoda was inaugurating the 2-day 9th Commandants Conference of Jammu and Kashmir Armed/IRP Battalions at Armed Police Headquarters here today. Expressing his satisfaction over the working of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police in day-to-day policing, he said that JKAP is the back bone of the Police Organization and its jawans and officers have demonstrated great professionalism, discipline and valour in maintaining the security of the State. He said that the force has offered many sacrifices for the integrity of the State and the nation will always remember their sacrifices. The men of the force have always ensured that there is neither any collateral damage nor the law abiding citizens face any inconvenience while dealing with the situations and fighting militancy, he added.

                Making a pointed reference to the law and order situation, the DGP said that policing has been demanding new changes in view of  the strategy adopted by the elements inimical to the peace. He said that these elements exploit the innocent youth to force the police for action to fulfil their designs. He reiterated that the ill designs of these elements would be foiled and peace and order will be maintained which is pre-condition for creating congenial atmosphere for education, trade and tourism. 

Elaborating the measures taken with regard to trainings and logistics,  Khoda said that the department has taken many initiatives to sharpen the training skills of its men. Many non-lethal weapons have been introduced in the department and all Police  Training Institutions across the State have been imparting trainings with new techniques to face the challenges. He said that with the introduction of these non-lethal weapons, the force will be able to avoid injuries to civilians as well as to its own men.

Spelling out the issues of police welfare, infrastructure, building, mobility and training, to be discussed in the Conference,  Khoda said that there was an urgent need to re-orient the force at all levels. He asked the participants to maintain close liaison and ensure welfare of their subordinates to create congenial atmosphere within the Organization. He stressed upon the officers to interact with the lower ranks frequently and address their problems and grievances on time. He asked them to hold regular durbars at different levels to get feedback about the problems of jawans. This will go a long way in establishing tangible bonds with their subordinates, he maintained.

Referring to the welfare measures taken by the department, the DGP said that in the recent State Level Central Police Welfare Committee meeting several decisions were taken to benefit the serving/retired personnel and family of deceased/martyrs. He stressed upon the officers to implement these decisions in letter and spirit.   

The DGP hoped that the Conference will prove a best platform for the officers to discuss issues and problems and share with each other their experience with an open mind. He stressed for drawing a proper roadmap for future planning to increase the professional efficiency in the entire Organization for yielding good results. He stressed for better coordination at all levels to provide better policing to the public which they expect from the department. He said that the suggestions and recommendations put forth by the participants of the Conference would be considered on priority for follow up action at PHQ level.

 Khoda while reacting to the issue with regard to building infrastructure said that many building projects have been completed and some more projects are in offing. He asked the officers to supervise the works going on in their jurisdictions personally and ensure quality construction so that the jawans are provided better living facilities. He asked officers to handover the occupation of newly constructed buildings immediately to the concerned units for their utilization. 

In his welcome address, the Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law and Order,  K. Rajendra Kumar gave a detailed power point presentation on the agenda points about the aims and objectives for organising the Conference. He said that the Conference will deliberate and discuss various aspects of functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police and formulate a comprehensive policy to enhance the performance of the force. He said that the role of JKAP is going to increase manifold and the force has to adopt themselves to these challenges and gear up for meeting them effectively. He said that the force as a back up to the executive police has handled difficult situations of law and order with great zeal and professional competence and upholding the highest traditions of the Organization, many men of the force have sacrificed their lives and received injuries while dealing the situations but these injuries have not been able to bring down their morale. On the contrary it has further strengthened their resolve to fight against anti-social and anti-national elements, he asserted.

On the first day of the Conference, presentations were made by several speakers on different topics which include ‘significance of discipline in armed police’, ‘police public relations’ and ‘guidelines for conducting departmental enquires’.
