JK Police on forefront in sports arena: Khoda

 

Jammu, February 28 (Scoop News) – Jammu and Kashmir Police, besides its professional duties, has earned a good name in sports arena also. The Organization has conducted various national and state level sports championships to inspire the youth of the State towards sports.

This was disclosed by the Director General of Police (DGP),  Kuldeep Khoda in a press conference here today. The press conference was organized in connection with 59th All India Police Wrestling Cluster, which will start from March 2nd, 2011. Giving the details, he said that the 5-day long championship will be held at Jammu in which 1550 players from 26 States and 5 Central Police Organizations  are participating. The inaugural ceremony will take place on March 2nd at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground and the championship will conclude on March 6, 2011.

The championship will be played at different venues in the city of temples viz. Police Auditorium, Jammu University, Police Badminton Hall, Indoor Hall M. A. Stadium and BSF Indoor Hall Paloura. The Tournament will include various disciplines of sports viz. Wrestling, Boxing, Weightlifting, Judo and Gymnastic. The players representing different States and Central Police Organizations will also include 219 women players. The players have already reached here and arrangements for their boarding and lodging have been made. Various committees have been constituted to make the event success.

 Khoda said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has figured quite highest in the field of sports and our players have proved their mettle at State and national level. He said that Inspectors Kuldeep Handoo and Satyakam Sharma have brought laurels to the state at national and international level. Besides Boxers of women team of Jammu and Kashmir Police have also earned a name at national level. The Organization in addition to organising various sports events within the department and by the department is also providing logistic support to the youth for promotion of the sports, he added. To cultivate talent among the youth of far-flung areas, the Organization has conducted various sports events at district level and battalion level across the state. Referring to the Police Friendship Cricket Cup Tournament recently held at Jammu University, he said that such tournaments in different disciplines have also been organized in the valley during the year. He said that to provide facilities to the sports personnel, the department is promoting its infrastructure at two capital cities, besides constructing stadiums in rural areas under its civic action programme.

The DGP appreciated the role of print and electronic media for their whole hearted support in promoting and highlighting sports activities in the State. He stressed that media has a great responsibility to inspire the youth towards sports and other such activities for their over all mental development. He hoped that all events will get adequate room in print and electronic media.

Doley,  Navin Agarwal,  Dilbag Singh, Raja Aijaz Ali, Sheikh Owais Ahmed,  A. K. Gupta,  M. A. Shah, Dr. B. Srivinas,  Ravainder Kotwal and  H. K. Lohia.
