Omar said this while addressing the concluding function of 12th police Martyr’s Football Tournament at M A Stadium today.
The Chief Minister appreciated the role of J & K police in combating militancy and maintaining law and order in the State and paid rich tributes to the police martyrs, who have sacrificed their lives for the safety and protection of life and property of the people.
Omar said that government is providing focused attention on the development of sports in the State and sufficient allocations have been made this year to upgrade and develop the sports infrastructure across the State.

Congratulating IST Srinagar for victory in the final match, the Chief Minister asked them to participate in the bigger tournaments to bring laurels for the State. He also congratulated RCF team for standing runner up. He said winning or losing is a part of the game but participation with competitive spirit is what matters most. He advised the losing team to participate in the next year’s tournament to prove their mettle.
Earlier, the Director General of Police Kuldip Khodda while remembering the sacrifice of Inspector late Mushtaq Ahmad, SHO Kothibagh, said that around 1500 jawans and officers lost their lives during 20 years of militancy. He said since his martyrdom the Police Martyr’s Football Tournament is being organized by J& K Police department every year.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released a souvenir of 12th Police Martyr’s Football Tournament. He also distributed color TV sets among the families of martyrs.
Later, award distribution function was held in which team managers of various participant teams were presented gifts by the Chief Minister.
IST Srinagar bagged the winning trophy and RCF Kapurthala was awarded second prize.
Minster for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib, Advisors to Chief Minister Devinder Singh RAna and Mubarak Gul, MLAs and MLCs, Principal Secretary, Home, B R Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal and other senior police officers were present on the occasion.
