Jammu, April 28 (Scoop News) – The Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda has said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing educational tours for 1800 students belonging to the poorer sections of the society from all over the State to various places of educational, historic and tourist interest in the country.
The DGP said that the first such group of students will proceed on a 6-day Bharat Darshan tour tomorrow, while this phase of the programme will conclude on June 28 this year. He added that 68 students, in each group, will visit places like Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jammu etc. These tours are aimed at enabling the children to visit various places across the country, interact with the people and their counterparts and see for themselves the progress registered in various fields of development.
The DGP was reviewing various welfare schemes launched by the Police Organization under its Civic Action Programme at a high level meeting held here today under his chairmanship.
The DGP said that the Police will organize these tours through Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation for which funds to the tune of Rs.1.31 crore under Civic Action Programme have been placed at the disposal of the Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation.
Referring to the travel arrangements made for the visiting students, Khoda said that in this connection the tour itinerary and train schedule have already been issued. An equal number of students from all the districts have been identified and lists thereof already provided to Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation. The students would be brought to the TRC Jammu and thereafter they would be taken to Railway Station, Jammu for further travel. Reservation processes have already been taken care of and the nodal officers nominated have been instructed to co-ordinate with the JKTDC for whatever support required by the JKTDC from the Police in furtherance of the programme. The JKTDC has already made proper arrangements for providing boarding and lodging facilities to the students. Right kind of mix of children from both the divisions has been nominated for the tour, mostly the students healing from disturbed and the remote areas have been given preference.
Khoda said that to uplift the victims of militancy, destitute children and others belonging to poor families, the Police Organization has decided to provide computer training concept (C++) though various accredited GOEACC Centres at Srinagar and Jammu. In this connection, he said, Rs. 62.5 lacs have already been sanctioned by the Police Department. He said that as many as 3125 students are being nominated for undergoing training. The Inspectors General of Police, Kashmir and Jammu Zones have been asked to complete the selection process of the students by 15th of May 2010 so that the lists of wards are provided to the Director DOEACC Centre Jammu. A nodal officer for every District and Tehsil level training centre is being nominated who would monitor training programmes and progress of each centre.
Meanwhile, the DGP today sanctioned scholarships amounting to over Rs. 68,000 in favour of 24 students who are the wards of the police martyrs who laid down their lives while fighting militancy in the State. These scholarships have been sanctioned for the academic year 2009-2010 out of the Central Police Education Fund. The students are studying from 1st primary to 12th classes.
