Jammu, May 04 -At least Thirty passengers including twenty government teachers were killed and five others injured two of them seriously when the passenger vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into river Chenab in district Kishtwar, 230 kms from Jammu on Monday. Police officals said that on receipt of the information senior police officers alongside team of local police party rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the assistance of army and locals of the area. The occupants of the vehicle were retrieved with the hectic efforts and rushed them to hospital, while 21 people were killed on the spot, nine died on way to hospital, taking the death toll to 30 persons, twenty were the government teachers, who were on way to their official duties when the mishap occurred. According to Police reports that seriously injured passagers, have been airlifted to Jammu for specialized treatment. Police said, The matador bearing registration number JK06-1075, which was going from Kishtwar to Palmar, fell into the gorge at Banderkoot at 8.30 am.

The critically wounded passengers namely Tehsin Ahmed s/o Abdul Latief r/o Bindra Ban, Khalid Aziz s/o Aziz Mohd r/o Palmar, Azad Ahmed s/o Bhar Bhagwan r/o Sagrambhata, Jagdish Raj s/o J.R.Ariyan r/o Pochhal and Aalamgir s/o Bashir Ahmed r/o Cherhar Kishtwar were air lifted to the Government Medical College Jammu for specialized medical treatment. Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed shock over the accident.
