Jammu, May 04 -At least Thirty passengers including twenty government teachers were killed and five  others injured two of them seriously when the passenger vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into river Chenab in district Kishtwar, 230 kms from Jammu on Monday.

     Police officals said that on receipt of the information senior police officers alongside team of  local police party rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the assistance of army and locals of the area.  The occupants of the vehicle were retrieved with the hectic efforts and rushed them to hospital, while 21 people were killed on the spot, nine died on way to hospital, taking the death toll to 30 persons, twenty were the government teachers, who were on way to their official duties when the mishap occurred.

According to Police reports that seriously injured passagers, have been airlifted to Jammu for specialized treatment.

Police said, The matador bearing registration number JK06-1075, which was going from Kishtwar to Palmar, fell into the gorge at Banderkoot at 8.30 am.
. Eyewitness reports said that the driver of the ill fated mini bus lost control over the wheels while negotiating a sharp curvenear bhaderkote leading to fatal accident.

In 2009 this is the third major accident in which several people lost their lives. 12 people lost their lives on January 4, 2009 and 41 people were killed in another road accident near Pul Doda.

Kabir Sheikh r/o Palmar,Aziz Ahmed  s/o Mohd Sultan r/o Razna Palmar, Amin Begum w/o Shabir Ahmed r/o  Kuchan Pinki Sharma w/o Ashok Sharma r/o Pochal , Kuldeep Singh s/o Som Nath r/o Jenwas Sarthal, Rayees Ahmed s/o Bashir Ahmed r/o Chamlee Palmar, Jia Lal s/o Bhag Chand r/o Thakraie,  Anil Kumar s/o Late Sewa Ram r/o Kuleed , Neetu Sharma w/o Rakesh r/o Nagni Kishtwar, Nasir Ahmed s/o Mohd Akbar r/o Suzna Palmar, Satya Devi w/o Jewan Lal r/o Wasar Kuleed, Sahista Parveen d/o Shabir Ahmed Tak r/o  Kishtwar, Laleeta Devi w/o Bansi Lal r/o Palmar, Gh.Mohd s/o  Rehman Bhat r/o Kulgam A/P Bhudipoora, Kirna Devi  w/o Subash Parihar r/o Hidyal Kishtwar, Shagufta Parveen w/o Gh. Mohd r/o Cheerhar Kishtwar, Parveena Begum w/o Mushtaq Ahmed r/o Patin Halla Palmar,Mohd Ramzan s/o Bhudur Sheikh r/o Rar Marwah, Kanta Devi w/o Kewal Krishan  r/o Tahkraie, Suresh Kumar s/o Mohan Lal r/o Kishtwar, Pushpa Devi w/o Satpaul r/o Wasar Kishtwar, Suneel Kumar s/o  Sewa Ram r/o Gurdaspur and his son Rajesh Kumar and Kewal Krishan s/o  Om Nath r/o Filler Thakraiee.

            The critically wounded passengers namely Tehsin Ahmed s/o Abdul Latief r/o Bindra Ban, Khalid Aziz s/o Aziz Mohd r/o Palmar, Azad Ahmed s/o Bhar Bhagwan r/o Sagrambhata, Jagdish Raj s/o J.R.Ariyan r/o Pochhal and Aalamgir s/o Bashir Ahmed r/o Cherhar Kishtwar were air lifted to the Government Medical College Jammu for specialized medical treatment.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed shock over the accident.
The Chief Minister expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of those injured in the accident. He issued instructions to the administration to do whatever is required to provide specialized treatment to the injured in the accident.

Some Cabinet ministers including Minister for Tourism and Culture Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Ali Mohammad Sagar ,Minister for Education and Public Enterprises Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has also expressed deep shock over the tragic loss of lives in a road accident in Kishtwar today morning. They  expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of those who were injured in the accident.
