J&k State Action PLan on Climate Change reviewed

Jammu, December 06, (Scoop News)- The State will send its final draft of the action plan on climate change to the Centre in the coming weeks. The plan lays out government’s strategy to implement Jammu and Kashmir specific climate priorities besides aligning the State plan in conformity to the common framework at the National Level.
Principal Secretary Planning and development, Mr B R Sharma, who chaired a meeting to discuss the draft action plan on climate change, here today, said that the action plan is almost ready and will be submitted to the Union Ministry of Environment soon.
Mr Sharma said promoting climate friendly practices, Norms , behavior and policies in the State forms part of the plan and it “identifies measures that promote our development objectives while also yielding co-benefits for addressing climate change effectively”.
He said it also takes into account regional and district wise climate risks and vulnerabilities into account adding that as we move forward in this regard, new suggestions and recommendations can be incorporated in the plan for better results.
Mr Sharma said it is important that there is collaboration across state agencies, as well as with the public, businesses, and industry that will ensure that the strategy reflects a cross-section of perspectives that support it. “We are in this together and our energy, water, forest, agricultural, tourism and health missions should be reflective of this cooperation and collaboration if we are to succeed” he maintained.
Mr Sharma said Jammu and Kashmir has vast potential for harnessing renewable energy sources through Hydropower and Solar Power to meet energy requirements besides we can make use of best agricultural practices to enhance production of our food crops.
He said state Government will welcome financial support from the centre under this Plan and it’s formal integration to planning and budgeting process.
