Jammu, March 08, (Scoop News)- The J&K State Social Welfare Board celebrated the International Women day here today in which Chief Information Commissioner J&K, Mr. G.R.Sufi was the Chief Guest.
Inspector General of Police CD, HG & SDRF, T. Phunsog and Padam Shree, Prof. Ved Ghai, were Guests of Honour, besides Chairperson, State Social Welfare Board, Khem Lata Wakhlu, Prof. Rita Jatinder, MS Chaudhary Director Social Welfare Jammu, Jai Pal Singh Director Technical Education J&K, Gazanfar Ali Secy Information Commission, Stanzin Nurbu Commandant SDRF, Manhas SO to ADG, Neetu Maini Principal Women’s Polytechnic, Sachin Mahajan, Cluster Head HDFC Bank, Ajay Khajuria from Airtel, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Bari Brahmna Industrial Association, Chief Warden Civil Defence, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, senior officers, NGOs, Creche Workers and hundreds of Students also graced the occasion.
The objective of the programme was to celebrate women’s achievements besides pondering over multi-pronged strategies envisaging women’s social, economical, cultural and political emancipation.
Speaking on the occasion, Sufi congratulated the SWB for organizing the event. He said women play huge role in progress and prosperity of the society adding that women of today has made a mark in every field of growth and development but still there is long way for her to achieve due recognition in the society. He cited examples of various successful women like Meera Kumar, Prathiba Devi Singh Patil, P.T.Usha and appealed the womenfolk to follow the footsteps of such visionary personalities.
Executive Director & Secretary SWB, Aamir Ali, presented welcome address and gave a detailed description about the activities and achievements of the board.
On the occasion, cultural programmes by J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages and a skit on the topic of “Ladki tou wardhaan hai- Doo gharoun ki shaan hai” was presented by Women Welfare Organisation, Jammu which enthralled the audience.
Prof Ved also spoke on rights and responsibility of women in the society while T. Phunsog stressed on the need for promoting women empowerment in all forms. They also emphasized the need of raising massive awareness about the women emancipation programmes among the rural women as most of them still live in distress.
