This was stated by the Union Minister while speaking at the valedictory function of three-day 22nd All India Forensic Sciences Conference at SKICC today.
The 3-day conference on ‘Forensic challenges ahead’ was organized by Directorate of Forensic Sciences Service, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India in collaboration with Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory, J&K. Over 200 delegates from across the country and abroad participated in the conference and deliberated in detail on the topic.
Elaborating the role of forensic science (FS) in the investigation of serious crimes, Singh said that it has changed the world of investigation and justice. He said the forensic science has been constantly developing new techniques and theories in the field of investigation and justice. He termed forensic science as important factor in the investigation, court process and security levels.
The Union Minister said every field is getting hi-tech as the perpetrators commit crime by state-of-the art equipments, adding that it is the forensic science through which scientific techniques are used by the law enforcement agencies to establish beyond doubt connection between the suspect and the crime to solve the cases. He said that the scientists and the professionals belong to the forensic science have to bring innovations to meet the challenges.
Singh said that year 2010 was declared as year of forensic science by the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. Exhorting upon the people belong to this field, he said they have to motive the young talented science graduates to adopt forensic sciences as their career as it has ample opportunities of employment and encouragement.
The Union Minister said that such conferences are very beneficial for the participants to learn more from the experts in their respective field. The facilities to the security personnel of the Central Security agencies posted in the state would be enhanced, he maintained.
Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani said that Forensic science plays important role in the administration of justice by analyzing and test methods, adding that quick investigation and fast trials are the need of the hour.
Highlighting the importance for holding the conference in the state, the Minister hoped that organizing such conferences would prove beneficial in upgrading the knowledge of the forensic professionals.
Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Union Ministry of Home Affairs S C Panda said that UMHA is keen to modernize the Forensic Science Laboratories in different States of the country to meet various challenges, in this regard several ambitious schemes have been formulated. He said that 26 forensic professionals from the country were deputed for advanced training in the field through world class agencies like
Director-cum-Chief Forensic Scientist, Directorate Forensic Science Services Dr. C. N Bhattacharayya in his welcome address stressed the need of advanced training to the professionals and modernization of FSLs to face the challenges. He said that the valuable suggestions by experts and scientists would be looked into and implemented for the betterment of forensic science field.
The Union Minister also gave away certificates, trophies and cash prizes among the participants whose papers and presentations were adjudged best in the conference.
