J&K to be theme state at cultural event at Chandigarh

             Jammu & Kashmir is going to be the theme state in the cultural festival to be held at Chandigarh in October this year. This was disclosed by Governor, Punjab, Gen. (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues at a reception function . The reception was organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKAACL) in honour of the visiting dignitary.

            Earlier in the day, Gen.  Rodrigues chaired a meeting of the governing body of the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala.

Gen.  Rodrigues said the event at Chandigarh would be first of its kind based on Surajkund ethos aimed at strengthening the bonds of friendship through culture. He said we need to understand and accommodate each other in a better way.

            Expressing gratitude to the JKAACL, he said the cultural presentations at the reception were a piquant glimpse of the diverse cultures and people of the state has been uniting for centuries now.

            Earlier, enumerating the activities of the JKAACL, Secretary, Mr. Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that work on nine languages of the state is going on at the Academy. He said the Academy awards best book every year in each of these languages. Besides, he said, the Academy is also working in fields like theatre, painting and other forms of applied art.

            Present on the occasion were Lady Governor, Mrs. Rodrigues, Secretary, Tourism, Ms. Tanveer Jehan, Director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, Mr. D.S. Saroya, members of the governing body of the NZCC and other senior officers and delegates.
