Bishna/Jammu, January 15 (Scoop News) – Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo . today urged upon women of Jammu and Kashmir to come forward and take the benefits of the schemes being run by the Government through social welfare department.
She was speaking at a women’s rally at Bishnah here today, attended among others by, Minister for Industries and Commerce, S. S. Slathia, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana, MLA, Mrs Bimla Luthara, besides Provincial President, National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta.
Sakina Itoo said that Government has devised a massive plan for empowerment of women, adding that Rs 10 crore have been earmarked for providing loan to them for setting up their own income generating units to ensure their economic independence. She said Government is trying to get modified the norms fixed for old age pension by the Centre to expedite its benefits to other deserving people.

Ms Sakina said that Women’s Development Corporation is providing loan to women entrepreneurs to set up their own ventures besides providing marketing facilities. She said recently an exhibition was held at Jaipur, Rajasthan, where women entrepreneurs participated and sold out their goods.
The Minister said that the launching of Sheri-e-Kashmir employment policy was aimed at to create income generating means, adding the educated youth are the most benefitted by this. She said it is not possible for the government to provide jobs to everyone and appealed unemployed youth to come forward and get registered their names with the concerned department.
She said about 40,000 persons have been absorbed in the Government jobs during Omar Abdullah led coalition government, adding recruiting agencies have been asked to gear-up the pending selection for filling up the vacancies.
Ms Sakina said that Government has streamlined the pension payment to the beneficiaries of the social welfare department, adding that possibilities are being explored to set up a separate counters in specific J&K Bank Branches for the convenience of beneficiaries.
