J&K women Minister Sakina says govt will fulfil all election promises

 

            Lammer (Kulgam)/Srinagar,Ocotober 27 (Scoop News) -Reaffirming the commitment of the Government to improve the socio-economic status and basic amenities of the people living in rural and hilly areas, the Minister for Social Welfare, Miss Sakina Itoo has said that Government has launched several developmental and welfare programmes in every nook and corner of the State. She appealed people to come forward and take full benefits of such beneficial schemes and programmes.

            The Minister was addressing a largely attended public gathering at Lammer in Noorabad constituency of Kulgam district, today after laying foundation of Rs. 1.36 crore IAY housing colony, coming up at Hallan for accommodating 136 Gujjar families.

            Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Farooq Ahmad Khan and senior officers of Rural Development, PHE, R&B and Social Welfare departments were present on the occasion.

            Ms. Sakina said that Chief Minister,  Omar Abdullah is taking keen interest for development of Gujjar and Bakerwal community, adding that the projects approved by the Chief Minister for Noorabad would definitely change the development scenario of the Constituency, consisting 136 villages, most of them inhabited Gujjar and Bakerwals.  

            She said by most of the promises during electioneering have been fulfilled and assured people that other demands would be also met in a phased manner. The Minister said that a filtration plant is coming up in the area to improve the water supply system in Lammer and adjacent villages, which was also an election promise.

            Ms. Sakina said Akahal Middle School has been upgraded; Public Health Centre is coming up besides upgrading a widening of Lammer-Akahal and Brinal-Lammer roads has already been taken up as promised earlier.

            The Minister said unemployment is still a challenge for the Government, adding that the announcement of Sher-i-Kashmir Employment Policy made by the Government has brought new hopes for educated unemployed of the State. She said that NREGA scheme has been launched in the State to create job avenues for labour force of the State living in rural and remote areas.

            The Minister said that people of Noorabad have given me mandate and now “It is my responsibility and duty to fulfill their demands, address their problems and fight for their rights”, she maintained. “I am proud that people of Noorabad have given me an opportunity to serve them”, the Minister asserted and said that during past two years number of developmental works have been completed, some are under execution and rest would be taken up in coming four years. 

            Ms. Sakina while addressing people at Halan said that construction of road from Lammer to Halan was her dream which has been turned into reality. “I could understand your problems and gauge the quantum of your pain”, Ms. Sakina expressed and said that Lammer-Halan road would definitely ease of difficulties of Gujjars living in escalated locations of Halan. She said this road link will lease life to those patients, who earlier were breathing last on way before reaching Lammer for treatment because of road problem.

            The Minister said the last four months unrest in the Valley has hampered the pace of development projects. She said peace is imperative for development and appealed people to cooperate with the Government agencies in taking forward the developmental programme coming up in the constituency.

            Earlier, a memorandum of demands was presented to the Minister which demands installation of electric poles, issuance of solar lights for Gujjar families, construction of PHC at Lammer, upgrading and widening of Lammer-Akahal and Lammer-Bunebot, upgradation of Girls Middle School and High School, Lammer, Middle School, Bunebot, Water supply for Hapatnar, Bunebot, Chonetwar, Hallan and Lammer.

            Responding to the demands of the people for provision of solar lights, the Minister assured that every family would be brought under this scheme. She directed Deputy Commissioner to issue 100 solar lights to the Gujjar families and arrange this facility for remaining families.
