Jammu,April 12 (Scoop News) – The Inter Zone Sports Tournament-2012 concluded at an impressive function held at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here this evening. Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand was the chief guest at the function.
Addressing the function Tara Chand said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been playing a prime role in the promotion of sports culture in the State. The force, besides its professional duties has been excelling in sports arena and has earned a good name at national level also. The efforts of the force have been proving instrumental in cultivating talent among the youth. Stressing upon the sports lovers to avail opportunities provided by the Organization, he said that the sports activities are pivotal, not only for maintaining physical health but also enhances mental capabilities of the sports person.
Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, said that the activities create sportsmanship among the personnel to enhance their discipline and talent. The occasions also create a team spirit among the participants to face any hostile situation in day-to-day activities and help the organizers to identify the talented sports person to form the contingent which could represent the Organization in national level events.
The Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda said that the department has framed a sports calendar to organize various sports activities in different cities and towns of the State annually. Such activities have helped us to strengthen police public relations which is a healthy sign for the development of the society. He said that sports arena within the Organization has also remained under focus and in this regard various sports tournaments at different levels are conducted regularly with the aim to boost the talent among different ranks of the force. The efforts have proved fruitful and our players have touched heights of success at national and international level bringing laurels for the nation and the force, said the DGP.
Khoda disclosed that sufficient sports infrastructure is available in the Organization which would help the players to sharpen their talent. Indoor sports facilities have already been made available and the Organization is now focusing to provide better infrastructure for water sports also.
Saying vote of thanks to the participants and the guests, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajendra Kumar said that tournament was played at different venues in Jammu City in which 1800 sports personnel including 400 women players and athletes, representing all wings of the organisation expiated their talent in various disciplines. All the players showed high standards of discipline during the tournament. He also lauded the role of Organizing Committees for smooth conduct of the event and the role of print, electronic media for highlighting the 4-day long tournament.
On the conclusion of the function, trophies and prizes were distributed among the winning teams and athletes. The Deputy Chief Minister and MOS Home congratulated the winners and stressed upon them to refine their talent for other competitions. The efforts of DGP and ADGP Armed and the team of officers were also lauded on the occasion for making the event a success.
Among others, the function was attended by MLA, Chaman Lal Gupta, Special DGP (CRPF), Anurod Uppal, ADsGP, Dr. Ram Lubhaya and Dr. S. P. Vaid, IsGP, Dilbag Singh, Z. H. Chisti, H. K. Lohia, G. S. Salathia and Rauf-ul-Hassan, senior retired police officers and other serving senior police officers.
