Kadlecek’s book "A Minute Before Friday" completes the trilogy of her religion news reporter, Jonna Lightfoot McLaughlin. Lightfoot begins her reporting careeer in Book 1 in Denver, Colorado (A Mile from Sunday). She’s enabled by the eclectic upbringing of her hippy parents to report on the diverse stories emerging in the mile high city that have something to do with religion. But there’s no good news nor a good man in her sojourn at the Denver Post.
In the second book she is in New Orleans pre hurricane Katrina – A Quarter after Tuesday – where shady local politicians & business leaders prey on a remarkably mixed race multi-denominational aged care facility.
Lightfoot’s journey as a reporter comes to a climax in New York City – a reporter’s Mecca, where it’s an Ivy League School and Wall Street greed (written before the current crisis) that turns her world upside down – the resolution is unpredictible, Kadlecek brings us to a surprising but satisfying end to a journey through the diverse and oft confusing religious pluralism of the US.
