Joghomi village depriving from irrigation water

 

Restoring of irrigation channel demanded.
 
CHITRAL: Irrigation channel has been damaged for village Jagomi Barinus due to land sliding after heavy earthquake at Chitral as a result 3 houses were totally and 5 partially damaged and cultivable land along with water channel also damaged of 9 families. Besides it irrigation channel of 450 house holds were badly affected and a long crake has been developed in the nullah  as a result water supply to wheat crop has been suspended and it is feared that standing crop of wheat might be withered. Mubarak Shah, Sher Jehan and other affected people complained that the authority and Non Governmental Organizations do only paper work and practical work of maintenance of the channel still awaited. They said that their crops need irrigation water in this month and if it was not restored immediately it is feared that their standing crop would be dry. They said that land has divided in two parts and people of the area are not able to restore this irrigation channel on self help basis. According to a survey of Focus humanitarian assistance team the inhabitants of Jughomi are associated with agriculture and live stock. About 150 meters long irrigation channel is completely damaged, 32 households are at mercy of this irrigation channel. Affected people of the area have appeal Federal, Provincial government as well as to philanthropists for alternate management to provide the shelter and food to those families whose land cannot be utilized for crops this year. A a baseline survey demanded to identify the families affected and estimation of damaged land for their future rehabilitation as well as immediately restoration of their irrigation water urged.
