According to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, it was shocking to see that many of the people that had attended a John McCain fundraiser last Friday night were the same ones that had stood with George W. Bush eight years ago. The host of McCain’s fundraiser was Bob Royall is Bush’s state finance chairman.
Eddie Floyd and John Rainey, two other key financial advisers to Bush were also present at the fundraiser.
This would now make John McCain an insider rather than a maverick outsider.
Right now, McCain holds a lead over Mike Huckabee. But, the lead over Huckabee is a fragile lead. So far, McCain’s campaign is operating from unknown grounds. His campaign is not campaigning from the GOP’s favorite position.
McCain patiently and quietly accumulated one local endorsement after another for over a year. As a result, McCain possesses twice the endorsements of any other Republican presidential candidate.
State House Speaker Bobby Harrell who worked for Bush in 2000 is actively campaigning for John McCain across the state. Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani too have attempted to get Harrell on their respective sides.
“That meeting told me a lot about the man,” Harrell recalled about John McCain. He added: “Because he spoke to me about national security, the threat of Islamic extremist terrorism.”
“He turned to my wife he spoke to her about Internet pornography and MySpace,” he added.
At their home, Harrell and his wife decided to endorse John McCain.
