Joshua Persky is a 48 year-old investment banker with a degree from M.I.T. He shouldn’t have any trouble getting a job, right? Wrong–he has been forced to leave his Manhattan apartment and don a sandwich board in his search for a job.
Joshua Persky can be seen in downtown Manhattan around the lunch out with a sandwich board sign that reads "Experienced MIT Grad for Hire" and Perksy’s contact information. He said he has had some response to his advertisement and even landed some interviews, but no job offers. He has been out of work for six months and says that if he doesn’t find a job by early August, he’ll pack up and move to Omaha, Nebraska where his family lives.
Joshua Persky is one of many qualified workers who have run into trouble during the current economic downturn. Perhaps his sandwhich board scheme will land him a job. If so, the streets of lower Manhattan might be filled with investment bankers wearing sandwich boards. What strange times we live in.
