Kathmandu, June 7, 2011: It has been reported that a Journalist namedKhilnath Dhakal Biratnagar correspondent of Nagarik daily was attacked last night Sunday at 10 PM by the Youth force (YF) cadres a political wing of the Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist and Leninist (CPN UML) in Biratnagar. Currently he is admitted in Nobel Hospital, Biratnagar where he was rushed to the hospital by the police. Dhakal sustained a fracture on his neck and severe wounds on his face, arms and back. He rarely escaped the ordeal due to the help of the police. One of the assailants, Rohit Koirala, the president of the YF was arrested on the night of the attack.
According to Dhakal’s personal interview, “I was called outside at around 10 PM by Rohit Koirala the president of the YF. They called me at Traffic Chowk, I went there and there and then I was man handled by the cadres of Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist and Leninist (CPN UML). They abducted me, and sized my phone. From there they took me to an unknown location. Luckily, I escaped them and found myself to a police patrol car and I was saved. All of them smashed me and used brutal force reasoning me for writing news un-favorable to them. Morang coordinator of Youth Force Parshu Ram Basnet was threatening me for reporting on the attack on Avishek Giri, a Biratnagar resident. Basnet had advised me to think seriously before writing anything against him.”
“The words of the YF president still haunts me as I could hear him saying finish him off, I was saved because of the police patrol car that was there for regular round up. If it was not there I would not be here,” added he.
