Jammu, September 10, (Scoop News)- Jammu Province People Form (JPPF), an amalgam of more than 50 social, religious and trade organizations expressed shock over the loss of more than 200 human lives, property, infrastructure, standing crops and live stock in the entire state of J&K due to unprecedented flood caused by the continues down pour of incessant rains.
On the advice of President Thakur Pavitar Singh Bhardwaj, Working President, M.S Katoch, while talking to reporters here today, expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the flood victims and appealed to all NGOs and other social organizations to come forward to extend help to the affected people in rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures taken up by army, State and Central agencies.
He said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself monitored the rescue operation and helped in saving the precious lives.
Lauding the efforts put by the Prime Minister, Narender Modi, Katoch said that prompt action taken by the Prime Minister himself to access the flood situation, loss of lives and property was a commendable job, who also released Rs 1,000 crore during his visit in addition to Rs 1,100 crore released by Union Home Minister Raj Nath Singh, which was released one day earlier total amounting Rs 2100 crore for relief and rehabilitation, besides one lakh blankets, 5000 tents, boats, helicopter and aircraft ,if services with promise to pay more if needed for relief and rehabilitation.
Hoping for continuation of all kind of support from Union Government, he said that thousands of houses in J&K had been damaged, besides several small and big bridges had been washed away in calamity.
Extolling the role of army, air force, navy, paramilitary and State police, he said that in this crucial hour of need they had played a historical role in rescue and rehabilitation operation.
He said, “There are some people who have always opposed the Indian army on one pretext or the other and demanded its ouster from the State only to pursue anti-social agenda, now the grave performance of the army has shown in rescue operation especially in Valley have silenced all those low thinking peoples and stone-palters.”
Mentioning the serious concern over the suspension of phone services, he urged the concern authorities to immediate restore the same as their family members are worried about the safety of their wards and relatives, who are trapped in flood waters in Valley.
He further clarified that some youth from Jammu have gone for interview and to participate in sport events at Srinagar have been trapped and lost contacts with their family members.
The Forum suggest that besides taking rescue operations by both governments, the administration should rehabilitate the genuine effected persons who are legally residing by the river banks and must avoid unauthorized settlers at river bed and bank and they be asked to shift to their native places.
The Forum also suggested that the transparency should be maintained with disbursement of relief to the genuine and affected victims of the havoc and for the purpose Central Government should constitute teams for proper verification for which Forum offers fall cooperation in identifying the genuine victims.
