Julie Lankamp, a former producer for CNN was found dead on Wednesday in her Manhattan apartment with her two-year-old daughter alive and clinging to her body.
Police are currently pursuing leads to figure out how Julie Lankamp died but are unsure if foul play was involved. They think Lankamp might have accidentally overdosed on prescription drugs.
When police found Lankamp she had a broken jaw and was covered in blood and bruises. A medical examiner said the injuries were not caused by beatings but that she might have suffered the broken jaw after falling and that the bruises were caused by decomposition.
Disturbingly, police also found Julie Lankamp’s two-year-old daughter Shaine crying and clutching her mother’s body. Nobody knows exactly how long Lankamp had been dead but family members say the last time they heard from her was on Sunday, three days before she was found.
Lankamp worked as a producer for CNN for three years in the 1990s and is the founder of the Internet company Melon Media.
Lankamp’s ex-husband, Edwin Lankamp, had a history of violence against her and will be interviewed by detectives.
