U.S. armed forces besides the Afghanistan-Pakistan boundary were so near to Osama bin Laden’s den in late 2004 that his henchmen nearly killed the al Qaeda leader to keep him from being confined, according to a report. However the troops – uninformed they were at the terror lord’s doorstep – moved on, and bin Laden got away, Newsweek reports today.
The Taliban’s al Qaeda contact told the magazine that bin Laden and his henchmen saw U.S. forces approaching from their hideout and were arranged to take severe actions.
