Kashmir festival aimed at showcasing the rich & diverse cultural heritage

Srinagar, May 7 (Scoop News) – J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today held a folk music programme at the picturesque Zabarwan park on the banks of the famous Dal Lake as part of its two month long Kashmir folk festival.

Co-sponsored by Department of Tourism, J&K, the event at Zabarwan was the first of its kind at the spot and third such programme of a series which would culminate on July 5 after traversing some known tourist destinations of Kashmir valley.

The programme at Zabarwan saw several folk groups perform amid thundering rounds of applause from an appreciative audience comprising locals as well as tourists.

The artistes who performed during the third instalment of the festival today include Abdul Rashid Hafiz, Fayaz Ahmad Rah, and Bashir Ahmad Shah.

It may be recalled that the festival, which was launched on May 4, comprises weekly events scheduled to be held at prominent tourist places of Kashmir like Verinag, Kokernag, Achabal, and Chinar Bagh  where prominent folk artistes of Kashmir will perform.

 

Giving details Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad said that the festival is aimed at showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Kashmir at places where tourists visit in large numbers.

 

Besides tourists and locals, today’s programme at Zabarwan was, among others, witnessed by Commissioner /Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Atal Dulloo, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, Additional Secretaries, Haroon Rashid and Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn.
