Srinagar,June 12 (Scoop News) -The J&K Governor, N. N. Vohra, today said that Kashmir has remained a seat of knowledge and wisdom and epicentre of spiritual discourses since centuries past, adding that concerted efforts are required to restore this pristine glory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Governor was interacting with a deputation of the Managing Committee of the Ramakrishna Mission, Srinagar, which called on him at Raj Bhavan, here this evening.
The Governor emphasized the need for known and upcoming scholars undertaking indepth research on the various spiritual, intellectual and other aspects of the glorious composite ethos of the State. He also stressed the need for the collection, compilation and translation of various classical works into Kashmiri and other languages of the State for the larger benefit of the upcoming generations. He said that major steps are required to promote the academic traditions of Kashmir in a significant manner.
The deputation, led by Vice President of the Mission, Prof. B. N. Koul, comprised its Secretary, Swami Paratmananda and Members, Prof. Chamanlal Sapru and Ashok Wali, briefed the Governor about the activities of the Mission and its future plans. They said that the Mission has revived its Dispensary and made its Library functional with 6800 books. It has also planned to set up a Dental Clinic, a modern Pathological Laboratory and an X-ray facility in the Mission complex, in a phased manner. They apprised the Governor that several classical works have been translated by the Mission into Kashmiri language.
