Kashmir University ,CSIR-NGRI sign MoU

Srinagar, August 25 (Scoop News) –  N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the need for well considered and imaginatively structured mutually beneficial collaborations in the arenas of teaching, learning and research to advance the welfare of the people at large.

          The Governor was speaking at Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between the University of Kashmir and the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, at the Kashmir University here today. This MoU has been signed with a view to developing a Centre for Geophysical Education and Research (CeGER), specific to Earthquake and Hydrological Studies, at the Kashmir University. The MoU will provide a framework for enriching scientific endeavours in these fields through collaboration in developing new academic and research programmes and exchange of faculty and students.

          The Governor observed that such understandings can go a long way in effectively meeting the challenges of global warming and climate change as well as better weather forecasting management. He expressed the hope that the MoU entered into by the Kashmir University and NGRI would help in undertaking meaningful research projects in the areas of hydrology and seismology so that adequate measures are taken to handle the problems arising on these fronts.

          The Governor complimented Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, and his colleagues for taking several initiatives for reviving the academic atmosphere of the University and for taking several measures for forging understandings and collaborations with other reputed institutions of higher learning.    

          The MoU was signed by Dr. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of the Kashmir University and Prof. Mrinal K. Sen, Director, CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, in the presence of  N. N. Vohra, Governor, who is Chancellor of the Kashmir University. They presented a copy of the MoU to the Governor.

            Prof. Mrinal Sen, Director, NGRI, Hyderabad, said that it is a happy occasion that both NGRI and Kashmir University shall be working together in several research projects. He added that we will be undertaking joint research projects in earthquake mechanism, disaster management, water conservation etc.     

            Dr. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, in his welcome address gave details of the MoU. He also dwelt on the MoUs already entered into with various institutions. He thanked the Governor for his support and keen interest in the promotion of teaching and research activities of the University.

            Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo presented a Vote of Thanks.

          Among those present on the occasion were Registrar, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Faculty members and research scholars.
