Jammu, January 29 (Scoop News) – BJP State Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh today alleged that Kashmiri young men and women are being subjected to torture and harassment by State and police authorities instead of being rewarded for their initiative to defy the militant dictates and participate in mainstream nationalist activity.
Dr Jitendra while raising serious doubts about the Central and State government’s sincerity to restore mainstream political activity in Kashmir, released the names of Kashmir-based activists who had voluntarily participated in the recently concluded “Rashtriya Ekta Yatra” organised by BJYM.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu today he said some of these activists were arrested before or during the yatra and were released on bail but inspite of that they are being regularly summoned to the police stations on the pretext of interrogation and subjected to mental and physical torture.
The issue raises question mark on the intention of the administration, which is on one hand talking of rehabilitating youth, who had crossed over to PoK and stone pelters who indulged in anti-India movement, and on the other hand discouraging the local youth who are voluntarily willing to take part in mainstream pro-India activity in the valley.
This also raises question about whether there is a mischivous agenda to discourage pro-India social and political activity in the state for which the Congress is equally answerable. The debate initiated by this issue goes beyond the confines of any particular party or BJP and is a matter of serious introspection for the entire nation.
About those being harrased by police in Kashmir, Dr. Singh told that Mrs. Haleema, a resident of Uri, who was found missing four days ago and discovered yesterday with burn marks on her body and hair trimmed, is under police custody and no one is allowed to meet her. Similarly, Ali Mohd. Mir, Altaf, Meeraj ud Din Bhat, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, Mrs. Halima Akhtar, Mohd. Ashraf Rishi, Manzoor Ahmed Sofi, Bashir Ahmed, Aashiq Hussain Dar, Ghulam Ahmed Dar, Nazir Ahmed Khan, Riaz Manhas and Shouqat Hussain are among several other activists who are still under police custody or police interrogation.
Dr. Singh further informed that a delegation of party MLAs will soon leave for Srinagar to inquire about the victims of police atrocities and the issue is being taken up with the Women Commission, Human Rights Commission besides seeking legal recourse.
