Kashmiri youth joins army in yoga for peace & harmony: Spokesman

Srinagar, June 21 (Scoop News)-In consonance with the national effort to motivate people to follow a healthy lifestyle, 21 Jun 2015 was observed as International Day of Yoga all over the Globe including various places of the Valley with massive participation by the youth,defence spokesperson said.

He said that Kashmiri NCC cadets, both boys and girls, joined the Army in Yoga as a part of healthy lifestyle initiative. The Srinagar based Chinar Corps joined the local youth by conducting yoga as part of their daily physical activity, in addition to physical training, in all parts of the Valley including in high altitude posts.

According to yoga experts that Yoga is an ancient physical and spiritual discipline and branch of philosophy that originated in India reportedly more than 5,000 years ago. The word “Yoga” comes from the Sanskrit word “Yoga”, which means, “joining or integrating of all aspects of the individual body with mind”. Yoga is an activity that increases flexibility, strengthens muscles, centers thoughts and relaxes and calms the human body. The health experts also claim that Yoga is also a big de – stressor and useful to provide remedy to many ailments generated due to stress and worries. The ultimate aim of conducting yoga is to make its practitioners achieve a happy, balanced and useful life. Having seen the benefits, United Nation has passed a UN Resolution declaring 21 June 2015 as International day of Yoga.

In the Valley, the International Day of Yoga was observed in many venues with the youth joining the Army at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, Govt Degree College Anantnag, Baramulla, Uri, Kupwara & Gulmarg. The NCC Cadets and large number of school children participated with zeal and enthusiasm, spokesman said.

In order to bring awareness among the masses about the healthy life style and benefits of Yoga, the Chinar Corps had observed 15 to 21 June 2015 as a Yoga week where in NCC cadets from all the Colleges and Schools and the troops of Chinar Corps in the Valley practiced Yoga on a daily basis and finally observed 21 June 2015 as the International Yoga day, thereby marking this event as a grand success.(Scoop News)
