In a statement, Zahid Ali,Spokesperson,Jamaat-e-Islami J&K said that On the eve of 26th January which is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout India, the valley of Kashmir is changed into such a tight security region that it becomes too difficult for a common Kashmiri to step out of his home and most of the people consider it safer to remain inside their homes.
He said that the normal activities of life come to a halt and become dormant. In the name of ‘maintaining law and order’ hundreds of people are kept under custody in the police stations and are made to ponder that 26th January is a day of deprivation of all their basic human rights rather than providing any guarantee to these rights,Zahid said.
Zahid in a statement said that the people here have been taught the meaning of democracy since 1947 quite contrary to the fact that a full chapter in the Indian Constitution deals with the basic human rights and guarantee their safety for everybody residing in India but the local administration violates these rights on this very republic day thereby depicting their total disregard for the constitution of India.
In other parts of the globe, the administration on such occasions, gives concessions even to most heinous offenders and the punishments of criminals are either remitted or reduced.
Jamaat-e-Isl;ami J&K, expresses its great concern over this attitude of the govt towards the common people and describes it as anti-democratic and anti-people and urges the govt to give up this policy and release all political detainees languishing in various jails of J&K.
