Government failed miserably to protect lives of commoners in
Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said while strongly
condemning killing of Sajjad Ahmed Dar of Sopore by unknown gunmen. Mehbooba said
that barbaric murder of 12th standard student was yet another instance of
unaccounted loss of life. She said that killing of Sajjad was not an isolated
incident but civilians were being killed unabatedly and government was watching
as a mute spectator.
Mehbooba said that another youth was killed in similar
circumstances in Ganderbal few days ago. Government has failed to bring to book
perpetrators of heinous crimes due to which atmosphere of fear and insecurity
throughout Kashmir Valley prevails. She urged upon state government to
immediately find out whereabouts of Sushil Raina, Pandit boy missing from Chandian
area of Ananatnag. “While government has created hype about so-called summer
unrest and remained obsessed with prevention to repeat it, worst thing seems to
be happening. Sense of security and feeling of peace have been seriously
compromised due to government’s poor governance and repressive measures,” she
said.

Couple of days earlier, while addressing party workers at
his official residence in Jammu, PDP patron and veteran politician Mufti Mohd
Sayeed expressed discontent over the mechanism of government in running the
affairs. Mufti was amazed about the way state government has adopted in dealing
the affairs. He questioned that during his tenure there were no killings, no grievances
of discrimination and no threat to hostility from government? He asked how long
innocent people would have to live under the fear of police atrocity.
Mufti counted the land mark decisions taken by central
leaders under the leadership of Atal Behari Vajpayee in New Delhi and his party
in making the peaceful atmosphere by launching telecom services, opening of
several roads between India and Pakistan and above all paving way to sense of
security to people of all religions and regions. Mufti said that governments
will come and go but what matters is peace and confidence among the various
sections of people of all the three regions of state, to which PDP is
committed. PDP leader Rakesh Pardesi also addressed workers on the occasion.
