We were all able to see, and be amazed by, the amount of preparation that went into the latest royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. The whole world stood and watched as these two joined together in the holy union. One of the reasons why everything seemed so perfect have been the beautifully done flower arrangements, which were a real delight to look at.
We have asked the Royal Florist, the Irishman, Shane Connolly (http://www.shaneconnolly.co.uk) to share some of his secrets with us, so that, perhaps, our weddings can be one step closer to the royal wedding.
Believe in your florist
The first thing that you should do, says Shane, is to choose a florist that you can trust and not to doubt him. Since you will be spending money on this man, you have to be confident that the money goes into the right hands. You can always do some research before you decide which one will do your wedding.
Match the content with the context
Do not hesitate to use simple and seemingly humble things, should they match the concept of the place. It might be the most important date of your life, but not everything has to be flashy. Also, as Shane says, make sure to go with the seasons.
Stick to the plan
As the big day comes nearer, you will surely feel the urge to just cancel everything and go a completely different way. By creating a mood board with all the arrangements, you will be able to resist this urge and control your impulses.
You can also grow
If you have a lot of time to plan and prepare the wedding, you can always consult with a florist and grow some of the flowers in your own garden. This will add to the authenticity of the whole ceremony and florists usually like to work with what they find in the client’s garden. Some find this a neat little challenge and do their best to make wonders.
Do your duty: recycle
No one ever wonders what happens to the flowers once the wedding is over. Well, you should, as the flowers should continue to live and grow elsewhere. For example, all the flowers that were used at the wedding went back to their original farms in Windsor and Sandringham, the eight maple trees from inside the Westminster Abbey were re-planted in front of the abbey after the wedding was over.
If you have a big space, try going simple
It may sound strange, with all the space to use to just be simple, but it can work excellently in some situations. For the royal wedding, the Abbey was decorated only with eight English field maple trees. Sure, there was room for much more things, but it added to the solemnity of the situation, which was exactly what a royal wedding calls for.
So, Shane has spoken after two years and revealed some of his secrets. He says that he draws most of his inspiration from the seasons and nature and once again singles out the importance of context.
