Kavinder Gupta elected as Speaker Legislative Assembly

Jammu, March 18, (Scoop News)- Kavinder Gupta was today unanimously elected the Speaker of the 12th J&K Legislative Assembly.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari moved the motion for the election of the Speaker which was seconded by Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh.
Immediately after the election, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh congratulated Kavinder Gupta on being unanimously chosen as the Speaker. He hoped that Kavinder Gupta would run the business of the House smoothly with the cooperation of all the parties.
Appreciating the opposition Members for supporting the election of Gupta, the Deputy Chief Minister said that people have reposed faith in a vibrant democracy and whole House should stands united in strengthening it further.
Former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in his brief address congratulated the newly elected Speaker and described him as the custodian of the House. He expressed hope that the Speaker would provide equal opportunities to all the Members to highlight the issues of public interest. He assured him fullest cooperation from his party for smooth conduct of proceedings of the House.
Leader of Congress Party in the House, Nawang Rigzin Jora while felicitating the new Speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly, said that Kavinder Gupta, we hope, would maintain high standards of democracy and run the House in a fair and transparent manner.
While felicitating the new Speaker, MLA CPI (M), M. Y. Tarigami assured him full cooperation for conducting the business of the House. He hoped that the Speaker would do justice and encourage members to raise issues of public interest in the House, which he described as the greatest institution of the State.
Hakeem Mohammad Yasin also congratulated Gupta and expressed hope that he would take into confidence all the Members of the House in deciding important matters concerning the common masses of the State.
Er. Abdul Rashid also congratulated the new Speaker and wished him success in running the House smoothly, while respecting the sentiments of the members in raising issues of public concern.
MLA Peoples Conference, Bashir Ahmed Dar while extending his greetings to Kavinder Gupta assured him full cooperation from his party in smooth conduct of the House. He hoped that they are heard and able to place their ideas on the floor of the House and raise issues of public welfare freely.
